The Mineral Makeup Revolution

13 Jun

There is a big gap between the “pancake makeup” generation of the 50’s and 60’s and now. Yet foundation makeup, and makeup in general, has always remained a popular and joyful purchase and pastime for millions of women.

Lelsley Blodgett, the chairwoman of her company Bare Escentuals, is profiled in Sunday’s New York Times Style section in an article entitled, “Move Over, Estee Lauder”.

After many years of working as a cosmetics executive is diverse companies, Lesley stumbled upon a failing line of mineral based cosmetics, and after time and trials, ended up selling her line on QVC. Her initial presentation sold $180,000 worth of foundation in 10 minutes; eventually, she began selling $1.4 an hour!

Last year, Shiseido bought Bare Escentuals for $1.7 billion. This is a very inspiring read.
